Chris Umphres


Chris is a PhD Student in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School where he plans to conduct research at the intersection of Judgment and Decision Making and International Relations.

Chris was born and raised in Dallas, TX and attended the University of Virginia. He graduated in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and commissioned as an Air Force officer. In 2016, he received a Master’s in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University while serving as an A-10C pilot and T-38C instructor pilot. Selected to pursue a PhD as an Air Force Chief of Staff Captains Prestigious PhD scholar, at the conclusion of his studies Chris hopes to leverage the insights from his research to improve decision quality and training in the U.S. military.
